MovieTime features the movie Hotel Rwanda this Wednesday, 3/10: “Amid the holocaust of tribal fighting in Rwanda that sees the butchering of thousands of men, women, and children, one ordinary man musters the courage to save these helpless refugees by sheltering them in the hotel that he manages.” Come and see this fine film if you haven’t seen it yet or for awhile. Hosted by our faithful Movietime crew, George Yee and Roberta Baade. Refreshments available, just like at the movies (’cept here they’re free)! Starts 7:30 p.m.

That’s right!! The NUC Friends of the Library have launched our fund-raising program. Our Goal: the purchase of two Early Literacy Stations made by AWE for use by children in the branch.

EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE WILL BE MATCHED BY THE BRANCH FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY. THEN, THIS DOUBLED AMOUNT WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE CITY’S EQUIPMENT MATCHING FUNDS TO BE DOUBLED YET AGAIN.

So, the $1 you donate becomes $2, and then that $2 becmes $4 to be spent on two Early Literacy Stations for kids to use in the branch.

A total of $6000 is needed to make this purchase. The donation target is $1500, which will increase to the full amount through the matching programs.

The systems are designed for children ages 2 through 10. They are self-contained and ready to use right out of the box. They include more than 45 educational software packages in seven circular areas.

Monday evenings, throughout the summer (from mid-July on), the public is invited once again to North University Community Branch Library for a series of hour-long concerts on our outdoor patio. These free concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a variety of musical styles. This year, Music Mondays includes the following lineup:

July 13: George Svobada, classical/flamenco guitarist.

July 20: Local Condition, bluegrass, folk, and depression blues.

July 27: Bayou Brothers, New Orleans zydeco, blues, and R & B.

August 3: Travis Daudert Jazz Trio

August 10: Leonard Patton, keyboardist and Jazz/R&B song vocalist.

August 17: Paula Simmons Quaretto Sorrento, string quartet.

August 24: Calafia Music Guild, Renaissance music played with period instruments.

August 31: Peter Rutman Band, blues and jazz.

September 7: Labor Day, Library closed.
